Toadi

A sustainable everyday shoe that grows with your baby.

On average, a child will grow roughly 6 sizes from birth to 2 years old. Toadi is designed to accommodate this high growth rate of young feet using expanding, origami-inspired auxetic patterns & healthy, grown-to-form, mycelium-based materials.

Toadi grows with your child.

38 million pairs of kid’s shoes are produced annually, but with the rapid growth rate of young feet, a great portion of this figure finds its way into landfills before the useful end-of-life.

In fact, children often go through 25+ pairs of shoes by the time they turn 12.

How it Works

Auxetic patterns are structures or materials that, when stretched, become thicker perpendicular to the applied force. In other words, they become fatter in cross-section when stretched.

The upper of the Toadi shoe is made of a Japanese plant-based Sasawashi fabric that is folded heat set in an auxetic pattern. Similarly, the Muskin (mycelium leather) sole is laser-cut with a matching pattern.

Creating a circular solution that proactively eliminates waste by extending a life cycle & regenerating waste into new resources.
